Local search in Edmonton and Alberta
Google Business Profile optimization
For a local business, your Google Business Profile is often the first thing people see, in Maps, in local results and increasingly in AI answers. It deserves the same care as your website.
What I tune
- Categories. The right primary category and a short list of secondary ones. This is one of the most important choices on the profile.
- Services and products. Listed in the words your customers use, matched to the pages on your website.
- Service areas or address. A storefront shows its address. A service-area business hides it and lists the areas it serves.
- Description, hours and links. Accurate, specific, and consistent with your site and directory listings.
- Photos. Real photos of your work, team and premises, with guidance on what to add over time.
- Reviews. A simple, honest way to ask happy customers for a review, and calm replies to the ones you have. No incentives, no filtering.
Why it matters for AI search
AI assistants and Google's AI Overviews draw on business listings as well as websites. When your profile, your site and your directory listings all describe you the same way, you are easier to recommend with confidence.
How it is priced
A Google Business Profile tune-up is part of every engagement, from $1,500 CAD. It is one fixed fee with no retainer.
Questions
Can you get me into the Google Maps top three?
No one can promise that. Distance from the searcher is a large factor, and no one controls it. What I can do is make sure your profile is complete, accurate and consistent with your website, so you are not losing places you should be winning.
I work from home. Do I have to show my address?
No. If you visit customers rather than having them visit you, Google treats you as a service-area business. You hide your address and list the cities or areas you serve instead.
Should I add keywords to my business name?
No. Google asks that your profile use your real-world business name. Adding keywords breaks its guidelines and can get a profile suspended. Keywords belong in your services, description and website.
Do you need my Google password?
No. You add me as a manager on your profile, and remove me when the work is done. You remain the owner.
